For our youngest patrons, literacy starts with play. In our early learning area, we provide access to board books, dramatic play stations, toys to develop fine and gross motor skills, plus educational and imaginative activities such as puzzles, a scavenger hunt, and art opportunities. Make a habit of coming to the library regularly with your child — it is one of the best ways to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning!

1000 Books before Kindergarten is a program designed to get your child kindergarten-ready through reading. Research shows that the more books a child has heard before starting school, the easier it is for them to learn to read. The program is very easy to participate in. Stop at the library and pick up a registration packet in the children’s department. Mark your reading log every time you share a book together. Do you read Green Eggs & Ham three times before bed? Mark three spots on your log. Attended story time today? Mark more spots on your log. Keep going until you reach 100 books. Bring in your reading log to collect your sticker and then start on the next 100 books. At 500 books you’ll receive a tote bag to carry all those books you’ve been reading. When you hit 1000 books, you’ll receive a certificate of completion and a free book to keep!

Our children’s activity room contains two bilingual AWE computer stations pre-loaded with programs and games to help children learn to develop literacy, math, science, and art skills. These computers are not internet accessible, making them safe places for children to explore and learn. There are STEM kits for children ages 3+ and a new craft every two weeks! Come on in and explore!
