Convert and archive your memories and personal histories for free at the library! Over time, technology becomes outdated and items decay or become damaged. Preserve your images, sounds, and videos now so they will always be available. No need to buy expensive conversion equipment! The library offers equipment in the library’s Makerspace to convert and archive your analog media to a digital format. The types of materials we work with are:
Visual (photos, negatives, and 35mm slides): you can convert to various file formats, most commonly JPEG for photos and PDF for documents.
Audio (33/45/78 rpm vinyl records and cassette tapes): converts to an .MP3 file.
Video (VHS tapes, camcorder tapes, and 8 mm/Super 8 film): converts to an .MP4 file.
Option 1: Do-it-Yourself
Cost: FREE!
The library also offers VHS-to-Digital Conversion Equipment for at-home use, but you must have your own VCR. Ask a staff member for access.
Option 2: Full-Service
Cost: varies by project. For example, converting one VHS tape costs $3.
We are happy to do the digitization for you! Contact Hunter Swanson for a quote at hswanson@whitewater-wi.gov or 262-473-0530.
